Safety Focused
Nuclear Safety Culture Policy
Students, staff, faculty, and visitors to the Nuclear Science Center expect a safe environment free from hazards. A safe work environment relies upon a positive safety culture that requires open communication of safety concerns amongst all workers engaged in any activity they are trained to perform. Personnel must also feel empowered to report safety concerns to NSC management, campus safety resources, or directly to regulatory agencies without fear of reprisal.
A safety conscious work environment is a tenant to positive safety culture and safe operations at the Nuclear Science Center. Multiple avenues in reporting concerns shall be available to workers that include formal, informal, verbal, and written concerns, and employees shall have the expectation that each concern will be evaluated, controls applied and corrections made when and where identified.
Laboratory Safety Program
The laboratory safety program at NSC provides resources for setting up your laboratory, including facility safety documents and expectations. Please start with the orientation checklist, and direct any questions to the NSC Laboratory Program Manager.
Laboratory safety documents are the governing facility-wide safety policies and may be referenced by principle investigators as they develop their procedures for performing scholarly research at the Nuclear Science Center. The link below provides access to orientation documents, laboratory SDSs, fire code requirements, required training, required postings, and other laboratory safety information.
Safety, Health, & Security Committee
he University has implemented a network of safety, health, and security (SHS) committees, organized into four levels. Together, the committees engage and coordinate WSU administrators, campuses, colleges, departments, programs, students, and employees to sustain and improve WSU’s commitment to safety and a culture that emphasizes safety. Level 4 SHS Committee for the Nuclear Science Center meets four times per calendar year. Meetings are held at the Dodgen Research Facility, Room 218.
